Princeton, N.J. (December 18, 2011) — At an award ceremony held this afternoon in Taipei, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Educational Testing Service (ETS) Global, David Hunt, announced the winners of the second TOEIC® Scholarship Program in Taiwan, which recognizes academic excellence by Taiwanese TOEIC test takers.
Program Recognizes
Academic Excellence Among Taiwan's Students
ETS, the creator of the TOEIC® tests, and its Country Master Distributor, Chun Shin Limited, honored 51 Taiwanese students by awarding a total of USD$50,000 (more than TWD$1.5 million) in scholarships to pay for academic studies and expenses. Students were selected not only for their academic achievements, but for their extraordinary efforts to make a difference in their communities through volunteer projects and community service.
“We are pleased
to continue to support students who demonstrate a commitment to achieving their
career goals and who support their communities,” Hunt said. “These students
have achieved great success in their study of the English language. We believe this will help guide them to future success in the
global workplace.”
Chun Shin Limited launched the TOEIC Scholarship Program for Taiwan in February 2011 and received more than 450 applications this year. Chun Shin will coordinate with ETS to support the TOEIC scholarship program again in 2012.
“Our scholarship recipients have achieved unparalleled success in the study of English, and we are looking forward to rewarding another group of exceptional students with the means to pursue their academic and professional goals next year,” said T.J. Shao, Chairman of Chun Shin.
To be eligible, scholarship recipients must be nationals of the Republic of China who are currently in high school, vocational school, university/college, or graduate school. Students had to submit valid TOEIC® Listening and Reading or TOEIC® Speaking and Writing test scores that met the minimum score requirements. Furthermore, each application had to include a valid transcript, letter of recommendation and personal essay written in English. The finalists participated in interview sessions and demonstrated active learning of English through helping others to enhance international communication by taking part in domestic and international activities related to academics or volunteering.
